Vaishnaw: AI, semiconductors, railways are India's 3 transformation pillars
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday, 11 May 2026, said that despite global turbulence, India has navigated the current environment effectively through well-considered policies and decisive execution under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Speaking at the inaugural session of the CII Annual Business Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Vaishnaw identified three major pillars driving India's next phase of transformation: railways, electronics and semiconductors, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Railways: Unprecedented Scale of Transformation
Vaishnaw highlighted the dramatic expansion of India's railway sector, noting that railway capital expenditure has surged from approximately ₹66,000 crore a few years ago to nearly ₹2,72,000 crore in the last financial year. He described this as more than a budgetary shift — calling it a fundamental cultural transformation in project implementation and delivery.
