Atmanirbhar Bharat: CSIR Unveils Homegrown Technology for Paracetamol Production

New Delhi, Jan 5 (NationPress) The government announced a new, indigenously-developed paracetamol formulation by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Sunday, which is expected to significantly lessen the nation's dependency on imported raw materials.
This pioneering effort is part of India's objective to achieve self-sufficiency in paracetamol production, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh remarked on this achievement.
Dr Singh detailed that CSIR has successfully created homegrown technology for the production of paracetamol, a widely utilized medication for pain relief and fever management. At present, India relies heavily on imports for essential raw materials required for paracetamol.
Satya Deeptha Pharmaceuticals Ltd, based in Karnataka, will leverage this innovation to manufacture cost-effective paracetamol locally.
“This is one of several indigenous advancements, including India's first locally-produced antibiotic Nafithromycin, which combats both typical and atypical drug-resistant bacteria,” Dr Singh noted.
The minister also extended congratulations to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) on the occasion of their 40th Foundation Day.
The DSIR Foundation Day also highlighted 16 additional technology transfers: 9 from CSIR-CSIO Chennai and 6 from CSIR-CEERI, Pilani.
The technology transfers from CSIO focus on the design and development of scientific and industrial instruments equipped with IoT-enabled technologies, while those from CEERI address healthcare and societal needs. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between CSIO and ELCIA, Bengaluru for collaborative sensor development.
While discussing India's rapid technological advancements over the past decade, Dr Jitendra Singh credited the visionary leadership of PM Modi, who has been a proponent of leveraging technology for national progress.
He stressed the necessity to move beyond traditional government funding for innovation, advocating for the exploration of non-government financing through knowledge partnerships and resource sharing.
Dr Singh highlighted the role of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (NRF), which aims to source 60 percent of its funding from non-government sectors.
Professor AK Sood, the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, urged the need for transforming the country into a product-based economy.
