BSNL core service revenue rises 10% to ₹4,418 crore in Q1 FY27
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
BSNL, the state-owned telecom operator, posted a 10 per cent year-on-year rise in core service revenue to ₹4,418 crore in the first quarter of FY2026-27 (April–June), driven by strong momentum in its enterprise and consumer mobility segments. The figure compares with ₹4,017 crore recorded in the same quarter of the previous financial year.
Key Business Drivers
Enterprise Business led the charge, with revenue climbing 19.2 per cent year-on-year to ₹1,745 crore from ₹1,463 crore a year earlier — the strongest growth across all verticals. Consumer Mobility followed, generating ₹1,724 crore, up 8 per cent from ₹1,594 crore in Q1 FY2025-26. Consumer Fixed Access contributed ₹960 crore, a marginal increase from ₹948 crore in the corresponding period.
Ministerial Review and Directive
The results were presented at a strategic review meeting chaired by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, who assessed the business and operational performance of all 28 telecom circles for the April–June quarter. Scindia described the outcome as 'a strong start to the financial year' and called on all circles to sustain the momentum through disciplined execution.
'The three engines of BSNL are firing together. This is an encouraging beginning, but our objective is to consistently build on this momentum throughout the year. Sustainable growth comes from disciplined execution, continuous monitoring and an unwavering commitment to the customer,' Scindia said.
Top-Performing Circles
The Minister recognised Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh West, and Karnataka as the best-performing BSNL circles across key operational parameters during the quarter.
Next Phase: Quality and Network Reliability
Scindia directed all circles to sharpen focus on quality-of-service metrics in the next phase of BSNL's transformation. Specific targets include improving Optical Line Terminal (OLT) uptime, Base Transceiver Station (BTS) uptime, and reducing Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) — all aimed at enhancing network reliability and customer satisfaction. This comes amid BSNL's broader revival push, underpinned by the government's ongoing 4G and 5G rollout investment in the public sector carrier.
