Buyer-Seller Engagement at Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav Expands Market Reach for Northeastern States

New Delhi, Dec 9 (NationPress) The dynamic Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, held a unique buyer-seller meet that connected sellers from the northeastern states with buyers from various regions across the country, as per an official announcement made on Monday.

The two-day event took place at Bharat Mandapam and aimed to cultivate enduring business ties between artisans from North East India and buyers from other parts of the nation, thereby expanding their market access.

This buyer-seller meet encouraged direct transactions among sellers from the region in four major sectors: textiles, sericulture, handloom & handicrafts; gems, jewellery & related; agriculture & horticulture; and tourism.

Such a platform promoted bulk orders, established long-lasting business relationships, and facilitated immediate trade agreements to enhance the region's economic development.

High-ranking officials from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC), and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) were also in attendance.

During the inaugural session, the Advisor from NEHHDC emphasized the benefits of the northeastern region and the investment opportunities it offers. The Chief Business Officer of ONDC noted that ONDC, a technology-driven initiative, aims to revolutionize e-commerce in the country by enabling it through an open protocol based on open-source specifications. This initiative is designed not only to accelerate e-commerce adoption but also to bolster and stimulate startup growth in India. By promoting scalable and cost-effective e-commerce via the open protocol, ONDC aims to empower startups to collaborate effectively. He also mentioned that ONDC, in partnership with NEHHDC, is onboarding artisans from the northeastern region onto their platform to enhance their market connections.

The Managing Director of NEHHDC praised the efforts by MDoNER and stated that such initiatives will greatly benefit the promotion of indigenous products from the northeastern region and contribute to the economic empowerment of local artisans and weavers. The Joint Secretary of MDoNER highlighted that the region is poised for growth through strategic investments and can become a leader in various sectors. She remarked that both the Central and state governments, through their initiatives and schemes, have created a supportive atmosphere for investment in the area. Moreover, she noted that all eight states present distinctive opportunities for investors. Both MDoNER and all northeastern states are committed to providing the necessary support for investments in the region.
