New Delhi, April 22 (NationPress) In line with the 'Make in India' initiative, the technology leader Ericsson revealed on Tuesday its plans to establish antenna manufacturing in India in partnership with the local firm VVDN Technologies, aiming to enhance innovation, growth, and global delivery.
By June this year, the Swedish networking powerhouse intends to fully localise production of the “Ericsson Antenna System (EAS) passive antenna” for the Indian market.
This strategic investment facilitates quicker time-to-market, fosters deeper collaborations with local partners, and enhances adaptability to customer demands, as stated by the company, while also supporting India's broader vision for digital transformation.
“At Ericsson, antennas are pivotal, acting as a gateway to improved network performance and innovation,” remarked Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System. “Expanding our presence in India enhances our capability to deliver advanced technology swiftly, closer to where our clients are constructing next-gen networks,” he further stated.
This initiative underpins India’s rapid 5G deployment and strengthens Ericsson’s capability to respond with enhanced agility to changing market requirements—both locally and globally.
Additionally, this move underscores EAS’s importance in establishing high-performing mobile networks.
This initiative integrates India into Ericsson’s global manufacturing landscape—which already encompasses facilities in Mexico, Romania, and China—further diversifying and safeguarding the company’s supply chain.
“This expansion signifies our commitment and long-term investment in India’s industrial and digital future,” stated Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India.
“By localising production and developing a robust ecosystem, Ericsson is ensuring expedited deployment, greater responsiveness, and enhanced protection for its clients against environmental or external disruptions,” he added.
Beyond fulfilling domestic requirements, a substantial portion of antennas produced in India will be exported, positioning the nation as a strategic hub in Ericsson’s global supply chain.
By aligning product development with regional customer realities, Ericsson is hastening time-to-market and enabling more profound local technology collaborations.
Ericsson has maintained a presence in India for over 120 years, initiating its journey in 1903 with the provision of manual switches to the Indian government.
In 1994, Ericsson was the pioneering telecom company to manufacture in India, laying the groundwork for the country’s mobile revolution.
As a leader in 5G, Ericsson has been actively collaborating with Indian service providers to implement high-performing networks.
