Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Greece’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harry Theoharis, engaged in discussions on Friday aimed at enhancing bilateral collaboration in sectors such as trade, investment, tourism, maritime connectivity, and other areas of shared interest.
During a virtual meeting, Goyal expressed the intention to reinforce India-Greece ties, sharing his sentiments on the social media platform X.
“India highly values its expanding partnership with Greece and is eager to advance this relationship further,” he remarked.
Earlier in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis convened on the sidelines of the ongoing AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, where they deliberated on enhancing connectivity, particularly through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
The two leaders reviewed multiple facets of the India-Greece strategic partnership, focusing on trade and commerce, defense and security, tourism, cultural exchanges, and collaboration in artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The statement noted, "The leaders discussed ways to enhance connectivity through IMEC and expressed anticipation for the swift execution of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which promises significant economic advantages for both nations, boosting technological collaboration, investments, and job creation, especially for the youth. Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to PM Mitsotakis for Greece's unwavering support in India's battle against terrorism."
The IMEEC consists of two distinct corridors: an eastern corridor linking India to the Gulf, and a northern corridor connecting the Gulf to Europe.
This corridor aims to improve connectivity, enhance efficiency, lower costs, secure regional supply chains, increase trade accessibility, and create jobs, thereby facilitating transformative integration among Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
