Hyundai Motor Group Collaborates with Nvidia on AI Innovations; LG Energy Solution Forms Battery Partnership with Aptera Motors

Seoul, Jan 10 (NationPress) Hyundai Motor Group announced on Friday that it has established a strategic alliance with Nvidia to advance artificial intelligence (AI) technologies pertinent to future mobility.

Formalized in Las Vegas on Thursday (local time), this collaboration will focus on enhancing essential mobility solutions, including software-defined vehicles and robotics, while broadening the integration of AI technology throughout its operational framework.

Hyundai Motor plans to harness digital twin technology to create simulations for the construction and operation of new factories within virtual settings. By utilizing Nvidia's digital twin platform, Omniverse, Hyundai aims to boost manufacturing efficiency, elevate quality, and minimize costs, according to a report from YOnhap news agency.

Furthermore, Hyundai Motor will deploy Nvidia's accelerated computing hardware and generative AI development tools to establish a secure framework for training AI models using extensive datasets.

The automotive group also intends to design AI-powered robots utilizing Nvidia's robotics platform, Isaac, and create the necessary virtual environments for training these robots.

“Hyundai Motor Group is engaging in innovative initiatives across diverse sectors, including robotics, autonomous driving, and smart factories, by leveraging AI technology,” stated Kim Heung-soo, head of the global strategy office at Hyundai Motor Group.

Kim further remarked, “Through our partnership with Nvidia, we aspire to solidify and accelerate these innovations, positioning ourselves as a frontrunner in future mobility.”

In another development, LG Energy Solution Ltd has entered a seven-year battery supply agreement with U.S. electric vehicle startup Aptera Motors Corp.

LG Energy finalized a tripartite agreement with Aptera Motors and Korean battery pack manufacturer CTNS to supply cylindrical batteries to the U.S. company from 2025 to 2031, amounting to a total of 4.4 GWh, as stated in an official announcement.

These cylindrical lithium-ion batteries from LG Energy will be featured in Aptera's solar electric vehicle, expected to hit the U.S. market this year.

CTNS will handle the assembly of LG Energy's cylindrical batteries into packs for distribution to Aptera, although the contract's financial details were not disclosed.

The Aptera is a two-seater, three-wheeled solar electric vehicle capable of traveling up to 643 kilometers on a single charge. It's anticipated to become a favored choice for commuters, as it can cover up to 64 kilometers daily solely on solar energy.
