Income Tax Department Unveils ‘Kar Saathi’ for Easier Tax Filing and 24/7 AI Support
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
On April 2 in New Delhi, the Income Tax Department introduced a new platform named ‘Kar Saathi’, which aims to streamline and enhance the user experience for tax-related activities.
This innovative website consolidates all direct tax information, making it more accessible and easier for users to navigate.
In a post on X, Income Tax India announced that this new site will allow taxpayers to find all necessary information in one centralized location, while also unveiling ‘Kar Saathi’, an AI-driven assistant designed to help users with their tax inquiries and related processes.
“The new Income Tax website has arrived. It's designed to be more intuitive and efficient,” the department stated.
“A single platform to access all Income Tax information. Meet Kar Saathi, your AI guide to simplify your Direct Tax experiences,” they continued.
This initiative is part of the government's broader strategy to modernize tax administration and leverage technology to enhance user experiences.
The AI chatbot, Kar Saathi, is set to offer continuous support to taxpayers through the department’s website.
This initiative was previously highlighted by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Ravi Agrawal during the launch of ‘PRARAMBH’, an outreach program designed to ensure a smooth transition to the new Income Tax Act of 2025.
Agrawal emphasized that digital services, including the new website and guidance tools, will be implemented in stages to develop a seamless, technology-driven tax system.
He described PRARAMBH—which stands for Policy Reform and Responsible Action for Mission Viksit Bharat—as a significant milestone in India's tax administration evolution.
According to him, the shift to the new tax framework encompasses more than just introducing new legislation; it aims to make the system more straightforward, transparent, and trustworthy for taxpayers.
As part of this simplification effort, the rules have been significantly reduced from 510 to 333, and the number of forms has been decreased from 399 to 190.
This reduction is anticipated to facilitate compliance and may eliminate the need for over six crore transactions.
