Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) - The Technology Development Board (TDB) of the Central government has finalized a collaboration with Casey Aviation Private Limited, located in Gurugram, to create a sophisticated hybrid propulsion-based Jump Take-Off (JTO) system aimed at boosting the operational efficiency of unmanned and light aircraft, as revealed in an official announcement on Monday.
This innovative solution combines hybrid propulsion technologies to facilitate short or near-vertical takeoff capabilities for a variety of platforms, including gyrocopters and unmanned aerial systems.
The initiative also includes plans for a specialized test bench facility dedicated to validating rotorcraft propulsion systems. This facility is poised to become a vital infrastructure component for the testing and optimization of next-generation aerial mobility technologies, according to the Ministry of Science & Technology.
Notably, this will mark the first propulsion testing facility of its kind in North India, serving as a validated infrastructure for startups and developers engaged in unmanned and advanced aerial mobility systems.
The government-affiliated board has approved a conditional grant for the project named 'Boost Electric Jump Take-Off (BE-JTO)' under the India-UK Collaborative R&D Programme focused on Industrial Sustainability, in partnership with ARC Aerosystems Ltd. from the UK.
“This technology is anticipated to facilitate reduced take-off distances and enhance operational flexibility, making it suitable for a diverse range of applications such as regional connectivity, disaster response, medical evacuation, unmanned logistics, and surveillance missions, especially in remote and difficult-to-reach areas,” the statement elaborated.
In addition to in-house development support, the project aims to yield broader ecosystem advantages by providing testing services and assisting in the commercialization of hybrid propulsion technologies.
Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of the TDB, stated that collaborative research and development initiatives under international programs play a crucial role in propelling advanced technologies in strategic sectors.
He emphasized that innovations in hybrid propulsion and advanced take-off systems hold the potential to significantly elevate India’s capabilities in unmanned aviation and regional air mobility, while also contributing to sustainable and efficient aviation solutions.
Casey Aviation Private Limited is a newly established aerospace enterprise that focuses on the design and development of small aircraft and specialized aviation solutions.
