New Delhi, Oct 10 (NationPress) The Indian government is making significant strides to establish a technological framework rooted in indigenous innovation for the automotive industry. This commitment is showcased through a recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), which operates under the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
This MoU aims to usher in a new era of Swadeshi solutions for the automotive sector by focusing on joint technology development, identifying new research and development areas, establishing testing standards, and enhancing cybersecurity solutions while also exploring emerging business opportunities.
The collaboration will involve conducting joint research and development to shape the future of mobility through indigenous technology, as stated by the ministry.
ICAT will work alongside the automotive industry to outline technological needs, while C-DAC will create and implement indigenous solutions that cater to these requirements.
For cutting-edge technologies, C-DAC will lead the development and innovation aspect, whereas ICAT will offer testing, validation, and certification services, along with fostering industry connections with automobile manufacturers.
The ministry emphasized, “This collaboration is expected to significantly decrease reliance on foreign technologies, as home-grown ‘Swadeshi’ innovations will increasingly fuel India’s automotive advancements.”
This partnership signifies an important step in India's pursuit of self-reliance and future-ready mobility, aligned with the national objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India.
The MoU was formalized during the ‘Traffic InfraTech Expo – 2025’ held at Bharat Mandapam, attended by Sunita Verma, Group Coordinator (R&D in Electronics & IT), MeitY; Dr. Saurabh Dalela, Director, ICAT; Dr. PR Lakshmi Eswari, Centre Head, C-DAC Hyderabad, along with other senior officials.
