IOCL Confirms Steady LPG Supply and Sufficient Stock Nationwide
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 8 (NationPress) The supply of LPG throughout India is currently stable, with sufficient stock available. Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) reassured the public on Wednesday that efforts are continuously underway to guarantee the uninterrupted availability of gas cylinders for households.
In a message shared on the social media platform X, the nation's leading oil marketing company urged consumers to remain composed and refrain from making excessive bookings, confirming that an ample supply of cylinders is at hand and the distribution systems are operating effectively.
"The LPG supply is steady, and adequate inventory is accessible. IOCL is dedicated to ensuring cylinders are available for every household," the company stated.
"We kindly ask everyone to stay calm and avoid unnecessary bookings," it added.
This assurance follows ongoing governmental initiatives aimed at optimizing LPG supply for both domestic and industrial sectors.
Earlier on the same day, the government declared an increase in the commercial LPG limit to 70% of the pre-March 2026 bulk consumption level, now applicable to various industrial sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food, polymers, agriculture, packaging, paint, steel, and glass industries, among others.
However, this expanded allocation will be subject to a sectoral cap of 0.2 thousand metric tonnes per day, as per an official announcement.
Industries wishing to access bulk LPG under this new allocation must adhere to registration requirements with oil marketing companies and apply for piped natural gas (PNG) connections with city gas distribution (CGD) entities.
Exemptions are in place for units where LPG is a vital input in manufacturing processes or for specialized uses that cannot be replaced by natural gas.
Additionally, supply for vulnerable populations has also seen significant improvements. The government has increased the average daily distribution of 5 kg LPG cylinders, commonly utilized by migrant workers.
Currently, over 1.1 lakh of these cylinders are being sold daily, a rise from an average of 77,000 in February. Since March 23, approximately 8.9 lakh 5 kg cylinders have been distributed nationwide.
Furthermore, the availability of commercial LPG has remained strong, with around 93,085 metric tonnes sold since March 14. Just on Tuesday, 6,646 metric tonnes—equivalent to over 3.5 lakh 19 kg cylinders—were distributed, indicating consistent demand and stability in supply.
