New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) - The state-owned oil marketing firm, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), reassured the public on Saturday that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, and LPG across the nation. This statement comes as the government intensifies its efforts to safeguard fuel supply chains amid global uncertainties.
The public sector entity indicated that it is diligently supervising its extensive distribution network nationwide to thwart hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders.
In a public advisory released on X, IOCL encouraged consumers to refrain from panic buying or making unnecessary LPG bookings, emphasizing that supply lines are stable, despite rising tensions in West Asia and potential disruptions in critical shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz.
"At IndianOil, we are committed to maintaining sufficient supplies of petrol, diesel, and LPG throughout the country. We are implementing necessary measures to combat the hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders, with continuous oversight of our distribution network," the company stated in their post.
This reassurance comes amidst worries about global oil supply interruptions due to escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Officials noted that Indian refiners have proactively secured crude oil supplies for the upcoming months, ensuring uninterrupted domestic fuel availability.
Furthermore, refiners have the capability to procure crude from various regions based on commercial considerations, thereby mitigating the impact of global market fluctuations, officials added.
The oil ministry announced that India has recently received an LPG shipment from Iran, which has arrived at the western port of Mangaluru and is currently being unloaded.
Authorities assured that domestic fuel supply remains stable, with collaborative efforts underway to facilitate smooth distribution and avert any fabricated shortages.
Additionally, 21 states and Union Territories are conducting press briefings to refute misinformation and reassure citizens regarding the ample availability and uninterrupted distribution of LPG.
The government has directed Chief Secretaries of all states and UTs to enhance proactive public communication, which includes frequent press briefings at senior levels and timely sharing of accurate information via social and electronic media.
OMCs are also providing 5-kg LPG cylinders at distributors and petrol stations upon presenting valid ID, without the necessity for address proof.
"The 5-kg FTL cylinders can be acquired at local LPG distributorships simply by showing any valid ID proof. There is no need for address verification," stated the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Since March 23, approximately 570,000 such cylinders have been sold, with over 71,000 units sold in a single day recently.
