Jamnagar, Oct 14 (NationPress) Dharmendra Kanha bhai, a livestock farmer hailing from Gujarat's Jamnagar district, has been awarded a remarkable subsidy of Rs 2 crore to enhance his Gir cow farming.

Recognized for his dedication, Dharmendra bhai has successfully raised 2,500 Gir cows, leading to the government extending a subsidy of Rs 2 crore to him under the ‘Rashtriya Gokul Mission’.

This mission, initiated by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in 2014, has significantly contributed to increasing milk production and improving the productivity of bovines. The scheme is intended to foster indigenous cow breeding and elevate milk output, ultimately benefiting farmers' incomes and the rural economy.

During an interview with IANS, Dharmendra Kanha bhai expressed his joy about receiving a warm welcome in Delhi and meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"I received a 50 percent subsidy through the 'Gokul Mission' scheme. I owned a few cows and was engaged in dairy farming. Thanks to the government's transparent and farmer-centric policies, I was chosen for this significant initiative. With the support of the project and financial institutions, I managed to establish a high-quality breed of cattle,” he stated.

He also mentioned that he has gifted 63 calves born on his farm to tribal families involved in organic farming and distributed 18 to other organic farmers.

“We were working on the Government of India's mission to assist farmers in benefiting from high-breed cows. PM Modi recognized this effort, and I was honored to meet him. We discussed essential amenities that farmers require and how the government can facilitate this work,” he elaborated.

He noted that he previously had never had the opportunity to meet ministers and senior officials.

“PM Modi invited an ordinary farmer like me and discussed our challenges as if we were family. It’s remarkable how deeply influential individuals care about the welfare of farmers and livestock owners. He dedicated his valuable time to meet us without any security present,” he shared.

He remarked that meeting the Prime Minister was one of the most delightful experiences of his life.

“We could never have dreamed of meeting PM Modi, but this opportunity became a reality,” he concluded.
