Maruti Suzuki hits all-time monthly sales record; Hyundai, M&M also log fresh highs in October
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Maruti Suzuki India posted its highest-ever monthly sales in October 2026, with total dispatches surging 25 per cent year-on-year to 2.76 lakh units, as a wave of festive-season buying powered record or near-record numbers across India's passenger vehicle segment. Hyundai Motor India and Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) also reported their respective highest-ever monthly sales figures during the same period, signalling a broad-based demand surge rather than a single-brand outlier.
Maruti Suzuki's Record Numbers
India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India, reported domestic passenger vehicle dispatches rising more than 20 per cent to 2.12 lakh units in October. Total domestic dispatches — which include sales of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle and supplies to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) — climbed approximately 19 per cent to 2.26 lakh units. The headline figure of 2.76 lakh units encompasses all channels, making it the company's strongest single-month performance on record.
Tata Motors, M&M and Hyundai Add to the Surge
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited reported a 23 per cent jump in total sales — domestic and international — to 75,426 units, compared with 61,295 units in October 2025. Domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 21 per cent to 73,894 units, while international business volumes jumped sharply to 1,532 units from just 161 units a year earlier.
Mahindra & Mahindra logged its highest-ever monthly vehicle sales, with total volumes up 9 per cent year-on-year to 1,31,109 units. Exports were the standout, surging 77 per cent to 7,102 units — a figure that underscores M&M's growing international footprint.
Hyundai Motor India Limited also notched its highest-ever monthly sales including exports, with total volumes rising 17.7 per cent year-on-year to 82,299 units. Domestic sales climbed 16.7 per cent to a record 62,799 units, while exports grew 21.1 per cent to 19,500 units.
JSW MG Motor Rides the New-Launch Wave
JSW MG Motor India reported a 19 per cent year-on-year increase in wholesale dispatches to dealers, reaching 8,013 units in October. The company attributed the momentum to strong customer interest in newly launched models, including the MG Hector Tomahawk EV and the Windsor Indulge Edition, with deliveries reportedly gathering pace across the country.
What's Driving the Festive Surge
October traditionally benefits from the Navratri-Dussehra-Diwali festive window, when consumer sentiment peaks and automakers roll out promotional financing and exchange schemes. This year, the confluence of new model launches, easing input costs, and a relatively stable interest-rate environment appears to have amplified the seasonal tailwind. Notably, the record numbers arrive as the industry continues to debate whether demand is being pulled forward from future months, a pattern seen in earlier festive cycles. How November and December retail offtake shapes up will be the true test of underlying demand health.
