Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 14 (NationPress) The auto component manufacturers under the Samvardhana Motherson International Limited umbrella have confirmed that their operations have remained largely stable, despite the tumultuous worker protests in Noida concerning wage disputes.
In a unified statement, Motherson Sumi Wiring India Limited and Samvardhana Motherson Automotive Systems Group declared that there has been no significant disruption to their business activities, even in light of the unrest in parts of Noida, which resulted in incidents of arson, vandalism, and police involvement.
The companies attributed the unrest to misinformation regarding wage adjustments and emphasized their commitment to separating their workforce from the demonstrations.
"This issue reflects a broader labor concern impacting various sectors in Noida and other locations, fueled by misleading information regarding wage changes," the firms stated in their regulatory communication.
"Our operations remain fully compliant with all relevant laws, with no significant impact on the company," they added.
Protests were reported near the group’s facilities located in Sector 62 and Sector 84, which are critical industrial zones in Noida.
Although the companies maintained that their operations continued as normal, sources suggested that some facilities might temporarily close for one or two days as a precautionary measure.
However, the companies did not clarify whether their employees were involved in the protests.
"Our operations remain compliant with all applicable regulations, and there is no significant impact on the company. The safety of our employees is our utmost priority. Local authorities are collaborating closely with industry leaders to restore normalcy swiftly," the statement emphasized.
In the midst of the unrest, the Uttar Pradesh Government announced a temporary increase in minimum wages for workers across various categories.
The updated wages, effective from April 1, 2026, will benefit unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled laborers.
As per the government, workers in Noida and Ghaziabad will experience the most substantial increase of 21 percent, while those in other municipal areas will receive nearly a 15 percent raise.
The state government also refuted claims circulating on social media regarding a uniform minimum wage of Rs 20,000, labeling them as inaccurate and clarifying that no such statewide wage has been established.
It further stated that the revised interim wages will encompass both basic pay and dearness allowance, which will vary by district.
