New Delhi, April 14 (NationPress) In a statement released on Tuesday, Nasscom affirmed that any occurrence of misconduct or harassment within the technology sector is handled with the utmost seriousness, ensuring that organizations implement swift and suitable disciplinary measures according to established protocols.
This response follows the reported sexual harassment case at Tata Consultancy Services in Nashik, which has raised significant concerns within the industry.
Nasscom underlined that such events are isolated and do not indicate any widespread issues within the industry.
Stressing the importance of industry standards, Nasscom stated that the Indian IT sector is founded on principles of respect, dignity, and safety, adhering to strict governance frameworks and explicit guidelines for workplace behavior.
The organization reiterated that the safety and well-being of employees are uncompromising priorities, maintaining a zero-tolerance stance towards any inappropriate behavior.
"The Indian technology sector is founded on a foundation of respect, dignity, and safety. The industry adheres to stringent governance frameworks and clear standards for employee safety and workplace conduct," they emphasized.
"Every instance of misconduct or harassment is addressed with the utmost seriousness, with companies taking immediate, decisive action in accordance with established processes," it further stated.
Nasscom noted that firms have reinforced preventive measures and grievance redressal systems, supported by well-defined codes of conduct and compliance with legal requirements to ensure that complaints are addressed swiftly, fairly, and sensitively.
Maintaining secure and accountable workplaces is crucial for preserving trust within the industry, they added.
"Such incidents are isolated and do not represent a systemic trend within the industry," the organization asserted.
This reaction comes after claims from eight employees at the Nashik facility, who alleged they faced mental and sexual harassment from senior colleagues, and indicated that the human resources department had not acted on their complaints.
In response to these allegations, police have detained seven individuals, while all accused employees have been suspended.
"The safety and well-being of employees are non-negotiable priorities, and the industry upholds a zero-tolerance policy for any form of inappropriate conduct," they concluded.
