Infosys Denies Social Media Claims of Harassment at Pune Facility Amid TCS Investigation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing inquiry into workplace harassment at TCS Nashik, IT giant Infosys has refuted allegations circulating on social media regarding harassment at its Business Process Management (BPM) center located in Pune.
This statement comes during increased scrutiny of Maharashtra's IT industry, following a separate investigation into Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik over claims of workplace harassment and forced religious conversion.
The allegations against Infosys gained traction after several posts on the social media platform X accused the company of inappropriate conduct towards female staff members at its Pune location.
However, these posts have since been removed. Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane confirmed that the government is aware of the allegations.
Infosys stated that it adheres to a zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment and discrimination.
“Infosys maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against any form of harassment or discrimination,” the company emphasized.
They further clarified that any reported issue is taken seriously and investigated by an independent committee, fostering a “speak-up culture” that encourages employees to express concerns through various channels.
The firm has also initiated internal processes and preventive measures in accordance with its global Code of Conduct to scrutinize the situation.
This development unfolds against the backdrop of the ongoing TCS Nashik situation, where numerous female employees have reported harassment from senior personnel over the years 2022 to 2026.
The complaints detail accusations of sexual harassment, stalking, inappropriate touching, objectionable comments, mental harassment, and alleged coercion to adopt specific religious practices or convert.
Investigators have reviewed over 40 CCTV recordings and are gathering testimonies from both complainants and accused individuals.
Law enforcement has also conducted an undercover operation involving female officers as part of the investigation.
The inquiry is still active, with officials asserting that all elements are being thoroughly examined before any determinations are made.
In a related update, TCS officials made an unexpected visit to their Nashik office this week as part of an internal investigation into the allegations, as reported by NDTV Profit.
The company has established a special investigation committee to assess the complaints. Senior officials have documented employee statements as part of this probe.
Sources indicate that multiple accusations emerged during the inquiry, broadening its scope. As a precaution, TCS has instructed around 120 employees at its Nashik facility to work from home while the investigation proceeds.
Additionally, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has set up a fact-finding committee to carry out a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged sexual harassment incidents involving women at the TCS BPO unit in Nashik. The committee is expected to present its findings within 10 working days.
