Key Takeaways
Bhopal, April 19 (NationPress) In a remarkable step forward for tourism and spiritual journeys in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is set to launch a new route joining Bhopal with the ancient towns of Chanderi and Orchha as part of the ambitious 'PM Shri Heli Tourism' initiative.
The inauguration ceremony will feature the Chief Minister personally sending off the helicopter service and handing out boarding passes to the inaugural group of travelers. This new corridor, designated as Sector-2 of the initiative, is designed to facilitate a smooth travel experience for both pilgrims and tourists.
It will establish a direct connection between the state capital and Orchha, known as the royal haven of Lord Shri Ram, which houses the venerated Shri Ram Raja Temple. Additionally, Chanderi is famed for its rich historical significance, stunning architecture, and intricate Chanderi sarees and handicrafts.
Chanderi is not only a historically rich town but also renowned for its exquisite silk sarees. Devotees can now enjoy a comfortable visit to the Ram Temple, while tourists can uncover Chanderi’s cultural gems in just a few hours, eliminating the need for lengthy road travel.
The helicopter service will be operational five days a week—Wednesday through Sunday. Fares are set at Rs 5,500 for the Bhopal-Chanderi route and Rs 6,500 for the Bhopal-Orchha route.
A comprehensive 'end-to-end' package, priced at Rs 14,500, will include added conveniences such as taxi services, VIP darshan, and prasad, as stated by officials. Furthermore, a ‘Joy Ride’ option will be offered at both locations for Rs 3,500, providing tourists with an exciting aerial view of these picturesque sites. Ensuring passenger safety and comfort is a top priority.
Operating under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, the service utilizes a state-of-the-art six-seater helicopter. Pre-arranged amenities at the destinations include comfortable lodging, meals, and knowledgeable local guides.
The PM Shri Heli Tourism Service was initially introduced by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on November 1, 2025, coinciding with Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day. Since its inception, it has successfully linked significant routes, including a spiritual circuit connecting Indore, Ujjain, and Omkareshwar, as well as a wildlife circuit covering Jabalpur, Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Chitrakoot, and Maihar.
To date, over 2,648 tourists and pilgrims have benefited from this initiative, marking it as a groundbreaking effort in enhancing intra-state air travel for tourism, according to officials.
This new expansion is anticipated to further solidify Madhya Pradesh’s reputation as a premier travel destination by significantly reducing travel times, promoting religious tourism, and highlighting the state’s rich cultural and natural legacy.
Officials are optimistic that this new sector will particularly draw pilgrims looking for easy access to Orchha and culture enthusiasts eager to embrace Chanderi’s timeless allure.
