New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal asserted on Saturday that the interests of farmers will always be prioritized, ensuring that no concessions have been made concerning sensitive agricultural products, including grains, fruits, vegetables, spices, oilseeds, dairy, poultry, and meat.
During a press briefing with IANS, Goyal elaborated that India has successfully achieved preferential access for its goods via the India-US Interim Agreement framework.
“There has been no compromise on India's dairy sector; nothing has been opened with any conditions,” Goyal stated firmly.
He mentioned that numerous Indian products are now set to be exported to the US duty-free, including tea, spices, coconut oil, vegetable wax, areca nut, Brazil nuts, chestnuts, and various fruits and vegetables.
According to Goyal, products such as vegetable roots, cereals, barley, bakery products, cocoa products, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, and citrus juice will also enjoy zero reciprocal tariffs, facilitating their entry into the US market.
He emphasized that the trade agreement is designed to protect farmers’ interests and enhance their livelihoods while creating more export opportunities.
This deal is pivotal for accelerating the growth of India’s economy, Goyal noted, pointing out that the agreement will benefit businesses, farmers, and workers collectively.
With a thriving economy, all 1.4 billion citizens will experience prosperity akin to celebrating Diwali once more, he added.
Goyal described the agreement as fair and balanced, asserting that the India-US trade pact safeguards farmers, supports exporters, and enhances bilateral economic relations.
He concluded by stating that the India-US partnership will fortify trade relations, elevate exports, and unveil new opportunities for businesses on both sides.
“With full confidence, I can affirm that this India-US agreement does not jeopardize the interests of India’s farmers, MSMEs, or the handloom and handicraft sectors in any manner,” Goyal affirmed.
