Seoul, Feb 26 (NationPress) Samsung Electronics announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with Hyundai Motor to incorporate its 5G private network solutions into the car manufacturer's cutting-edge vehicle production facilities.

The two firms have recently concluded the end-to-end Reduced Capability (RedCap) trial using a private 5G network and are set to demonstrate the technology at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, according to Samsung Electronics.

A private 5G network is a specialized communication system where a company installs base stations and utilizes distinct communication frequency bands for internal communication or specific areas, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

RedCap streamlines 5G connectivity for compact Internet of Things (IoT) devices, like industrial sensors and wearables, by minimizing complexity and enhancing power efficiency while maintaining essential data speeds.

This RedCap end-to-end test follows Samsung Electronics deploying a private 5G network at Hyundai Motor's key manufacturing site last October.

The companies are working together to transform Hyundai Motor's Ulsan Plant, the largest automobile manufacturing facility globally, which produces an average of 6,000 vehicles daily, into a smart factory.

Hyundai Motor intends to further expand RedCap private 5G networks into its latest electric vehicle manufacturing sites, with operations set to commence in the first half of 2026, according to the report.

The collaboration illustrates how two leaders in their fields can creatively foster business innovation and uncover new practical applications by merging their top-tier expertise, stated Simon Lee, vice president and head of the network business at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung's RedCap-enabled private 5G network solutions will provide additional opportunities for enterprises, manufacturers, and public institutions, acting as a gateway to more efficient 5G networks,” Lee added.
