The Work Ethic Perspective of Young Indians: Insights from Leading Founders
New Delhi, Jan 11 (NationPress) Amidst the discussion surrounding L&T Chairman S.N. Subrahmanyan's proposal for a 90-hour work week, prominent startup founders and investors emphasized that young Indians prefer autonomy in their work approach and deserve respect.

New Delhi, Jan 11 (NationPress) As the debate intensified regarding L&T Chairman S.N. Subrahmanyan’s recommendation for employees to engage in 90-hour work weeks, influential startup founders and investors voiced their opinions on Saturday, asserting that young India prefers not to be dictated and should be respected.

It does not imply that they are less industrious, as young Indians become “switched on in various ways”.

“We all understand that to be a well-rounded individual is crucial for optimal performance. While hard work holds significant value, the definitions of hard work and work itself can vary from person to person, and we must honor that individuality,” stated serial entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala during the ‘Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025’ event.

Oyo co-founder and CEO Ritesh Agarwal remarked at the event that the traditional notion of working hours is “not the right concept”.

“The appropriate concept for work is to engage wholeheartedly. Everyone is dedicated to the mission of building a developed India. Some individuals may find productivity in just 4 hours a day, while others may need 8 hours. Each person can have their unique approach to work,” he explained.

Agarwal emphasized that there are vast opportunities awaiting young Indians.

“If you have an idea to contribute to making the country a 'developed India', share it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Many enthusiastic founders will recount their experiences. I wish all the youth the best in seizing this opportunity,” Agarwal highlighted.

According to Screwvala, the essence lies in diversity, which is a hallmark of India.

“We perceive youth as a blend of raw energy, passion, fresh concepts, and diversity,” Screwvala added.

The Department of Youth Affairs is hosting the 'Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue' from January 10-12 at Bharat Mandapam.

This event, a reimagining of the National Youth Festival, aims to create a distinctive platform for youth to propose innovative solutions for 'Viksit Bharat'.

It grants young leaders the chance to interact directly with policymakers and national as well as global icons while sharing their thoughts on shaping the nation’s future.
