Women-Led Development in India: The Promise of Self-Help Groups, Says Jitendra Singh

New Delhi, Jan 3 (NationPress) The self-help groups (SHG) showcase the potential of women-led development in India, stated Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh.
Highlighting the significance of “women-led development” as a pivotal focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance strategy, Singh made these remarks while addressing a gathering of nearly 3,000 women from SHGs in Moragudi village, Andhra Pradesh.
“These groups are playing a transformative role in empowering rural women by promoting financial literacy, food processing, and the production of handloom and millet-based products,” Singh noted.
Backed by central initiatives such as the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), “these SHGs symbolize a beacon of hope for economic self-reliance,” the Minister commended their efforts.
He advocated for further skill enhancement through programs like SEEDAP, which aim to boost employability and entrepreneurial prospects in the region.
Singh’s visit to Moragudi village is part of his three-day tour to YSR Kadapa under the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP). His primary focus during this visit includes women’s empowerment, education, infrastructure, tourism, and development.
“The ADP has demonstrated that with targeted governance and collaboration, we can uplift even the most underdeveloped areas and offer their residents opportunities comparable to the best-performing districts in the nation. This reflects the vision of our Prime Minister, who advocates for an inclusive and progressive India,” Singh remarked, reiterating the importance of the ADP in promoting equitable growth.
Through initiatives like the ADP, the government remains dedicated to empowering local communities, improving infrastructure, and fostering innovation, thus creating a roadmap for sustainable advancement across India.
Singh also laid the groundwork for a central kitchen at the Zilla Parishad High School in Moragudi. This facility is intended to meet the nutritional requirements of school children, ensuring the effective execution of midday meal programs.
