New Delhi, Jan 17 (NationPress) Engineers India Limited, a state-owned enterprise, declared on Saturday the successful completion of the world’s longest horizontal directional drilling (HDD) crossing of more than 4 kilometers for a 26-inch pipeline beneath the Brahmaputra River. This significant milestone is part of the Paradip–Numaligarh Crude Oil Pipeline project, as stated by the company.
In a post shared on the social media platform X, EIL celebrated the achievement of completing the pullback for the Brahmaputra HDD crossing, measuring 4,058 meters. This marks it as the longest ever HDD crossing globally for a 26-inch pipeline diameter.
The accomplishment eclipses EIL's previous record of 4,027 meters at the Ganga River, which was also part of the same project, underscoring EIL’s commitment to engineering excellence, innovation, and capability in tackling challenging terrains.
The company noted, 'This historic achievement surpasses EIL’s own earlier record of 4,027 meters at the Ganga River, affirming our engineering excellence, innovation, and execution capability in the most challenging terrains.'
The Paradip–Numaligarh pipeline, developed for Numaligarh Refinery Ltd., extends for 1,635 kilometers and serves as a strategic energy corridor to transport imported crude oil from Paradip port to Assam, traversing Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, and the Northeast.
The pipeline is poised to enhance India’s energy security, facilitate refinery expansion in the region, and promote significant regional economic growth and employment opportunities, as highlighted by the firm.
EIL attributed the success of this pullback to effective collaboration with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), its executing contractor, and other stakeholders. The successful realization of this intricate pipeline infrastructure is a pivotal step for the development of the Northeast and the nation as a whole, the company remarked.
Founded in 1965, EIL specializes in engineering consultancy and EPC services primarily targeting the oil & gas and petrochemical sectors. The company has also expanded into various sectors including infrastructure, water and waste management, solar and nuclear power, as well as fertilizers, to leverage its robust technical expertise and proven track record.
