Mumbai, March 9 (NationPress) Aamir Khan attended the inaugural film festival presented by PVR INOX, titled "Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar". The event was graced by the esteemed lyricist and screenwriter, Javed Akhtar.
During their engaging dialogue, Mr. Perfectionist and Javed Akhtar shared insights about films and the Indian cinema landscape.
In their discussion, Aamir emphasized the critical nature of connecting with the audience.
He opened up about the factors contributing to the lackluster performance of his 2022 film, "Laal Singh Chaddha".
Aamir expressed, "Many people were not fond of 'Laal Singh Chaddha'; it did not resonate with the audience. As a contributor to the film, I came to understand that we failed to engage a significant portion of viewers. Although we reached a few, we fell short with the majority."
Mr. Perfectionist also addressed the current struggles of Bollywood.
Aamir remarked, “We are encouraging our audience to consume our films at their convenience. If they choose not to, we’ll make it available on OTT platforms in eight weeks at no extra cost since they’ve already paid for subscriptions. I’m uncertain how to effectively market a movie twice. Previously, I watched films out of necessity. Now, it relies on a preference for cinema. Thus, we have undermined our own business model.”
Aamir and Javed Akhtar further pondered the unpredictable dynamics of box office success. The lyricist noted, “I haven’t witnessed a better film than 'Superboys of Malegaon' in the past 6-7 years. Its reviews average between 4 and 4.5 stars. Yet, it has not performed well in theaters.”
Echoing this sentiment, Aamir mentioned the disappointing box office outcome of "Laapataa Ladies" despite its positive reviews. He stated, “I haven’t encountered anyone who hasn’t appreciated 'Laapataa Ladies'. However, it didn’t fare well at the box office.”
