Mumbai, September 16 (NationPress) – The Supreme Court awarded actor Alok Nath with interim protection against arrest on Tuesday, September 16, concerning a fraud investigation tied to an alleged multi-level marketing scheme in Sonipat, Haryana.
Previously, the same court granted protection to actor Shreyas Talpade in this ongoing case. Furthermore, the Supreme Court has issued notices to the governments of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and the Central Government, requesting replies.
For those unfamiliar, Alok Nath and Shreyas Talpade, along with thirteen other individuals, including actors and brand ambassadors, were implicated based on a complaint from Vipul Antil, a 37-year-old resident of Sonipat. The complainant claimed that these actors promoted the Human Welfare Credit Cooperative Society Ltd. as brand ambassadors, enticing investors to deposit their funds.
The FIR was filed on January 22 and recorded under Sections 316, 318, and 420 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, addressing offenses such as cheating and criminal breach of trust.
The complaint contended that the society, registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, commenced operations in 2016, offering savings schemes including fixed deposits and recurring deposits.
Allegedly, the company marketed itself as a reliable financial institution, attracting a substantial number of investors. Reports suggest that while investors initially received returns by 2023, the disbursement of maturity amounts later encountered delays.
The Supreme Court is now seeking responses from the relevant parties, including the Haryana Police. The matter is slated for a subsequent hearing, during which Alok Nath will continue to enjoy interim protection from arrest. Notably, Alok Nath is a prominent actor, renowned for his roles in various films and television series such as “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”, “Tara”, and “Maine Pyar Kiya”.
