Actor Angad Hasija, best known for playing Alekh in the iconic television serial 'Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai', has revealed that it was his mother's unwavering belief — not his own ambition — that brought him to Mumbai and launched one of Indian television's more enduring careers. In a candid conversation, Hasija traced his journey from Punjab to the sets of some of Hindi television's most-watched shows.

A Mother's Vision, An Actor's Beginning

Hasija was forthright about his initial reluctance. 'I did not have any interest in acting, but my mother always wanted me to pursue acting. So, I came to Bombay at her request,' he said. He had already completed some work in Punjab before relocating, but it was his very first audition in Mumbai that changed everything — he was selected, and his career was underway.

'My mother was very clear that I would do a good job,' Hasija recalled. That conviction proved prescient: his portrayal of Alekh in 'Bidaai', which premiered in 2007, became one of the most beloved characters in Hindi daily soap history. Even years later, fans continue to address him by that name.

Gratitude for the Industry

Hasija spoke warmly about the people and mentors he encountered along the way. 'I have made good friends, and I have been fortunate to work with some wonderful directors who have taught me a lot as an actor,' he said. He described feeling 'blessed' by his experiences, noting that every show he has been part of has offered him something new to learn.

'Since I came to Bombay, people have taught me a lot, and I have been fortunate to meet good people in life,' he added. This sense of gratitude, he suggested, has shaped his approach to the craft — one of continued openness rather than complacency.

Returning to Alekh After 15–18 Years

Hasija is currently seen as Yash Vardhan in the show 'Tumm Se Tumm Tak', but the more striking detail is the nature of his return. Producer Prateek Sharma, a close friend, approached him with a proposal to revive the character of Alekh within the show — a character Hasija had last played roughly fifteen to eighteen years ago.

'I was shocked because I had bid farewell to Alekh many years ago. It is difficult to play the same character again, especially after fifteen to eighteen years,' Hasija admitted. Yet the emotional pull was undeniable: 'This character was very close to my heart. It was my first show and the first character that people loved.'

Sharma reportedly wanted Hasija not just to reprise the name but to carry the essence of Alekh into the new narrative. 'Prateek told me that he wanted me to retain the name Alekh and be the same character in many aspects,' Hasija said.

The Challenge of Playing the Same Role Twice

For Hasija, the assignment presented a creative tension familiar to any actor asked to revisit past work: how to honour what audiences remember while bringing something fresh. 'As an actor, it is important to do something different, and it is very challenging to play a character like this. Every actor wants to play different characters, so I was very happy when he offered me the role,' he said.

Beyond 'Bidaai', Hasija is also recognised for portraying Jimmy Dhillon 'JD' in 'Tera Rang Chadeya'. His return to the screen in a dual-identity role — officially Yash Vardhan, spiritually Alekh — is being watched closely by a fanbase that has followed him since the late 2000s.
