Chennai, Dec 8 (NationPress) The production team behind director A R Jeeva's compelling drama, 'Lockdown', starring actress Anupama Parameswaran in the lead role, revealed on Monday that their film is now set to premiere worldwide on December 12 this year.

In a post on their X timeline, Lyca Productions, the company behind the film, stated, "When life turns upside down, choices grow tougher. #Lockdown ⚡️ hits theatres on December 12."

Originally scheduled for a December 5 release, the film's launch was postponed due to the relentless rains that affected Chennai and other regions of Tamil Nadu last week.

Chennai and Tamil Nadu experienced continuous rainfall for nearly a week, caused by a deep depression linked to the remnants of cyclone Ditwah, which devastated nearby Sri Lanka. Consequently, the production team opted to delay the film’s debut.

While announcing the postponement, Lyca Productions emphasized, "With the ongoing rains, the release of #Lockdown has been postponed. Your safety is our priority. We look forward to seeing you in theatres soon. #LockdownInCinemasSoon."

They also issued a statement noting, "Due to the current heavy rains and adverse weather, the release of our film #Lockdown has been postponed. In the face of these challenges, we prioritize the safety of our audience, theatre staff, and partners. Please stay safe and observe necessary precautions. We anticipate welcoming you to cinemas soon for an unforgettable experience of 'Lockdown' on the big screen."

With the weather now improving, the production team has confirmed the new release date as December 12.

The Censor Board has already granted the film a U/A certificate for its release.

'Lockdown', a woman-centric narrative, has generated significant anticipation as it draws inspiration from a true story.

The trailer reveals Anupama Parameswaran, portraying the character Anitha, grappling with fear about returning home due to an undisclosed issue affecting her ability to confide in her family. Compounding her troubles are unwelcome advances from men.

In this context, a nationwide lockdown lasting 21 days is declared to curb the spread of COVID-19, compelling Anitha to remain at home.

Anitha's behavior raises concerns for her parents, particularly her mother, who observes her daughter frequently checking her phone and exhibiting signs of agitation. The trailer also depicts Anitha and her friend trying to reach a doctor, who is in isolation after contracting the virus.

Additionally, Anitha is shown desperately calling friends for financial assistance, prompting her parents to question her motives.

The trailer concludes with Anitha apologizing to her father, assuring him she won't repeat her actions.

Produced by Subaskaran of Lyca Productions, the film not only stars Anupama Parameswaran but also features Charlie, Nirosha, Priya Venkat, Livingston, Indhumathi, Rajkumar, Shamji, Lollu Sabha Maran, Vinayak Raj, Vidhu, Abhirami, Ravathi, Sanjivie, Priya Ganesh, and Asha among others.

The film's music is composed by the talented NR Raghunanthan and Siddharth Vipin, with cinematography by K.A. Sakthivel. Editing is handled by V J Sabu Joseph and art direction by A Jayakumar.

Choreography is done by Sherif and Sri Girish, while the stunts are coordinated by Om Sivaprakash. Costumes for the film have been designed by Meenakshi Shreedharan.
