Mumbai, May 7 (NationPress) Turkish-German director Fatih Akin is ready to present a captivating cinematic experience. The teaser for his anticipated film ‘Amrum’ has been released in advance of its world premiere in the Cannes Premiere section of the Cannes Film Festival.
World sales are being managed by Beta Cinema, while Warner Bros. will distribute the film in Germany and Dulac Distribution in France, according to reports from ‘Variety’.
Set on Amrum Island, located off the German coast in the spring of 1945, the story follows 12-year-old Nanning as he faces the perilous sea to hunt seals, fish at night, and assist on a local farm to support his mother in providing for their family.
Despite the challenges, the idyllic, windswept island appears almost paradisiacal. However, as peace arrives, it unveils a more significant danger: the enemy is much nearer than Nanning ever realized.
According to ‘Variety’, the film draws inspiration from the childhood of German actor, writer, and director Hark Bohm, who penned the original screenplay that Akin later revised and directed.
In his remarks, Akin discussed the cinematic inspirations for the film. "When Hark first shared his story with me, I immediately thought of films like ‘Bicycle Thieves’ and ‘Shoeshine’ by Vittorio De Sica. The scenes depicting Nanning's search for driftwood at night reminded me of ‘The Night of the Hunter’ by Charles Laughton. The entire film was meant to encapsulate the essence of ‘Stand by Me’ by Rob Reiner. Hence, my cinematic background formed a personal bond with the film.
Joining Akin in the cast are Jasper Billerbeck, Laura Tonke, Lisa Hagmeister, Kian Köppke, Lars Jessen, Detlev Buck, Jan Georg Schütte, Matthias Schweighofer, and Diane Kruger. The producers include Akin and Herman Weigel.
Bombero International and Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany produced the film in collaboration with Rialto Film. The cinematography is handled by Karl Walter Lindenlaub, with editing by Andrew Bird.
