Actor Govinda has opened up about being repeatedly written off by the Hindi film industry, saying his latest project has given him the resolve to return stronger than ever. Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai on Monday for his upcoming film 'Roopa', the veteran star reflected on resilience, numerology, and what he believes is a destiny-driven comeback.

Written Off, But Not Out

Govinda said he has faced industry dismissal more than once, but chooses to view each setback through a spiritual lens. 'Maybe it was destiny that I was written off many times. People said that now he will not appear in films. I start again,' he told those gathered at the event. He added that he prays the film achieves what 'people cannot think' — and expressed particular hope that 'Roopa' resonates with younger audiences. 'This film is especially for youngsters. When they will see this in the theater. Such a dream will come true,' he said.

The Number 14 and a Life by Numerology

A self-described firm believer in numerology since childhood, Govinda traced his faith in the number 14 back to his earliest years in the industry. 'Number 14 is my good luck number. I believe in numerology. My name is also as per numerology,' he said. He recounted a remarkable streak: signing 14 films in a single week, enjoying 14 years of superstardom, becoming a member of parliament in the 14th Lok Sabha, and then enduring a 14-year struggle before returning to films. He noted that this is the first time he could not wait beyond five years before deciding to restart his career. 'I said, I will start again. And now I hope that the journey has started from here,' he said.

From Village Scepticism to Stardom

Govinda also recalled the disbelief he faced growing up, when villagers questioned his ambitions because of his lifestyle choices. 'When I used to say in the village that I will become a hero, people used to laugh at me. They said, Neither you smoke cigarettes, consume alcohol, non-vegetarian food, garlic, nor onion. How can you become a hero?' he recounted. He credited his mother's belief in him as the anchor that kept him on course, and said he ultimately did what she had envisioned for him.

What Roopa Means to Him

Beyond his personal comeback, Govinda framed 'Roopa' as a film with a larger social purpose — one aimed at inspiring children and young audiences. 'I feel that this film is very important for children. That such films should be made. And children should move forward,' he said. The actor did not share a release date at the press conference, but the event signals that the project is moving toward a formal launch.
