Akhtar graced the Critics' Choice Awards 2025 as a distinguished guest of honor.
During the event, the emcee jestingly inquired if he was as romantic off-stage as his verses imply, prompting him to recount a light-hearted story.
He mentioned that someone had once posed the same query to Shabana Azmi, who humorously replied, “Mujh Mein ek bhi romantic bone nahi hai (I don't possess a romantic bone in my body).”
Akhtar humorously added, “Jo log circus mein trapeze karte hai, wo real life mein ulte thode latke rehte hai. (Those who perform trapeze in the circus don’t hang upside down in real life, you know.)”
