Mumbai, Feb 24 (NationPress) Director Anurag Kashyap is preparing to unveil the Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam suspense film “Footage,” featuring Manju Warrier.
Kashyap, acclaimed for his films like “Gangs Of Wasseypur,” “Raman Raghav 2.0,” and “Manmarziyaan,” remarked: “I watched the Malayalam version of ‘Footage’ and it lingered in my mind.”
The critically lauded found-footage film, which received praise in Kerala last year, is set to premiere in cinemas across the country. This film signifies the directorial debut of seasoned editor Saiju Sreedharan, recognized for his contributions to award-winning projects like “Maheshinte Prathikaaram” and notable successes such as “Kumbalangi Nights,” according to reports from variety.com.
“It’s thrilling to witness emerging filmmakers in the Malayalam film industry embracing diverse genres, styles, and techniques, breaking conventions to discover innovative storytelling methods,” added Kashyap.
Alongside Warrier, the cast comprises talents like Vishak Nair and Gayathri Ashok.
The narrative follows a YouTube vlogging couple, portrayed by Nair and Ashok, who delve into the enigma surrounding their assistant’s secretive employer during the COVID-19 lockdown. Their quest takes them to a secluded island and an unforeseen adventure.
Manju, known for her recent roles in films such as “Thunivu,” “Asuran,” and “Lucifer,” expressed: “The found footage technique allowed the narrative to evolve through the characters’ video recordings, providing a unique and immersive viewing experience. It was both challenging and exhilarating.”
The Hindi version, supported by Movie Bucket and distributed by Flip Films in collaboration with Cinepolis, follows Kashyap’s recent endorsement of “Tiger’s Pond,” the inaugural Kannada film showcased at this year’s Berlinale. Previous releases from Flip Films include festival hits “Kastoori” and “Eeb Allay Ooo.”
“We are immensely thankful to Anurag Kashyap and Cinepolis for facilitating our film's arrival to Hindi audiences,” remarked director Sreedharan, while Ashok noted that having Kashyap present the film affirms its “technical and aesthetic excellence,” and Nair emphasized the team’s “tireless dedication.”
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 7.
