Bollywood actor Kunal Kemmu is stepping behind the hosting podium for the first time with the reality series 'Alliance', set to stream on Prime Video from 26 June. The Hindi-language show marks a new chapter for the actor, best known for his film work, as he takes on the role of anchor for what is being positioned as one of the most ambitious unscripted formats to debut in India.

What 'Alliance' Is About

Alliance is the first international adaptation of Talpa Studios' globally acclaimed Dutch format, originally created by John de Mol. The Indian edition is produced by Banijay Asia. The show features 16 contestants who enter as allies, but shifting loyalties, strategic deception, and high-stakes gameplay progressively erode every partnership in the race for the ultimate prize. The format blends physical, mental, and emotional challenges, with each round reshaping the competitive landscape.

What the Producers Said

Deepak Dhar, Founder and Group CEO of Banijay Asia, described the show's appeal as rooted in both scale and substance. 'What drew us to the format was its sheer scale. The games are ambitious, cinematic, and unlike anything we've attempted before,' he said. He added that 'spectacle alone doesn't make a great format' — what distinguishes Alliance, in his view, is 'the constant interplay between strategy and performance,' making it 'fast, unpredictable, and incredibly dynamic.'

Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals at Prime Video India, called it 'a first-of-its-kind format for India' that will 'combine strategy, shifting loyalties, and constantly evolving gameplay, creating a truly immersive experience.' Madhok also pointed to the platform's track record with unscripted content, citing 'The Traitors India' and 'Two Much' with Kajol and Twinkle Khanna as evidence of 'the growing appetite for distinctive and unconventional reality content.'

Kunal Kemmu's Broader Slate

The hosting debut comes as Kemmu prepares for a busy second half of the year. He is also producing and starring in the action-comedy film 'Vibe', co-produced with Chirag Nihalani under their banner Drongo Films, alongside Preity Zinta. The film, which follows two close friends whose ordinary lives spiral into a high-energy, survival-testing adventure, is scheduled to release on 18 September.

Why This Matters for Indian Streaming

The acquisition of an international format of this scale signals continued investment by global streamers in India's unscripted segment. Alliance is notably the first adaptation of the Talpa Studios format outside its country of origin, giving the Indian edition a degree of novelty that domestic productions rarely carry. With Prime Video expanding its unscripted portfolio and Banijay Asia backing the production, the show arrives at a moment when competition for reality-format audiences on streaming platforms is intensifying.
