Chennai, March 6 (NationPress) The Censor Board of Film Certification has officially granted approval for the release of director Prithviraj Sukumaran's highly anticipated political thriller L2: Empuraan, starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the leading role, with a clean UA certification.
The film certification authority has provided the movie with a UA 16+ rating. The certified runtime of the film is 179.52 meters.
Empuraan serves as the sequel to Lucifer, which achieved phenomenal success. In addition to directing the film, Prithviraj Sukumaran portrays the character of Zayed Masood – a mercenary commando leading the notorious Kureshi-Ab'ram syndicate in the Lucifer series.
Reflecting on the intricate world presented in Lucifer, Prithviraj mentioned in a previously released video clip that the second installment will delve even deeper into that complexity.
“The cast will expand significantly. Audiences will experience a variety of settings and landscapes where the narrative unfolds. However, we firmly believe that the film will maintain a coherent storyline. We hope viewers feel the same upon watching it,” he stated.
He noted that after the first part of Lucifer concluded, audiences were left with the impression that no force could challenge the Khureshi-Ab'ram underworld mega syndicate. Prithviraj asked, “Was that belief accurate? Or was it a false assumption?”
The film, L2: Empuraan (L2E), is co-produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Subaskaran. The story is crafted by Murali Gopy, with music composed by Deepak Dev. Cinematography is handled by Sujith Vaassudev, while editing is done by Akhilesh Mohan.
'Lucifer', the first installment released in 2019, marked Prithviraj Sukumaran's directorial debut and became a blockbuster within just eight days. It grossed over Rs 200 crore, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date.
