Chennai, Feb 26 (NationPress) Director Prithviraj Sukumaran, portraying Zayed Masood – the mercenary commando who commands the notorious Kureshi-Ab’ram hit force in the Lucifer franchise, has now revealed that the sequel, Empuraan, will unveil a different aspect of his character.
On Wednesday, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal introduced Prithviraj’s character as Zayed Masood in the political action drama L2: Empuraan (L2E).
Mohanlal took to his X timeline, stating, “Character No 2. Prithviraj Sukumaran as Zayed Masood in #L2E #EMPURAAN.” He also shared a link to a YouTube video where Prithviraj discussed his character and the film.
Prithviraj expressed, “I am Prithviraj. Zayed Masood from the Lucifer franchise. In the first film, Lucifer, we were introduced to a notorious nexus controlling the global gold and diamond trade – Kureshi-Abr’am, led by a mercenary commando. This was the only perspective of Zayed Masood you experienced.”
Zayed Masood has a backstory, much like any character in the franchise penned by Murali Gopy. Prithviraj elaborated, “Zayed possesses a narrative. A universe that belonged to him. What was that narrative? What was that universe like? How did Khureshi-Ab'ram enter that realm? You will catch a glimpse of all this in Empuraan.”
Reflecting on the complex world introduced in Lucifer, he noted that the sequel will amplify this complexity.
“The number of characters is set to expand. Audiences will encounter more settings and landscapes as the story unfolds. However, we are confident the film will maintain a coherent narrative. We hope viewers feel the same when watching it,” he stated.
When the first Lucifer concluded, audiences left with an impression that no force could challenge the Khureshi-Ab'ram underworld mega syndicate. Prithviraj questioned, “Was this belief accurate? Or merely a false assumption?”
The Mohanlal-led L2: Empuraan (L2E) is directed by actor Prithviraj and produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Subaskaran. The narrative has been crafted by Murali Gopy with music by Deepak Dev. The film features cinematography by Sujith Vaassudev and editing by Akhilesh Mohan.
It’s worth noting that Prithviraj had earlier stated that this film would be a commercial entertainer featuring Mohanlal. According to Murali Gopy, this marks the second installment in a trilogy.
The inaugural Lucifer, released in 2019 and marking Prithviraj Sukumaran's directorial debut, became a blockbuster within just eight days, grossing over Rs 200 crore, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date.
