Chennai, Mar 18 (NationPress) Filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran has revealed that the legendary Tamil actor Rajinikanth was the first individual to view the trailer of his highly anticipated political thriller L2: Empuraan, which features Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the lead role, and he praised it.
On Tuesday, Prithviraj took to his X account to share a photo with Rajinikanth, stating, “The very first person to watch the trailer of #L2E #EMPURAAN I will forever cherish what you said after watching it Sir! This meant the world to me! Fanboy forever! @rajinikanth #OGSuperstar”
As the film's release date approaches in less than ten days, the promotional efforts have intensified.
The film has already received a UA 16+ rating from the Censor Board, with a certified runtime of 179.52 minutes.
Empuraan serves as a sequel to Lucifer, which became a massive success. Prithviraj Sukumaran not only directs but also portrays the character of Zayed Masood—the mercenary commando leading the infamous Kureshi-Ab’ram nexus in the Lucifer series.
Prithviraj previously mentioned in a video that while the first film introduced audiences to a multifaceted world, the sequel would delve even deeper into its complexities.
“The number of characters increases. You'll encounter even more settings and landscapes where the narrative unfolds. However, we firmly believe that the film maintains a coherent storyline. We hope viewers feel the same upon watching it,” he expressed.
Reflecting on the conclusion of the first part, which left audiences believing there was no force capable of challenging the Khureshi-Ab'ram underworld mega syndicate, Prithviraj posed the question, “Was that true? Or merely a mistaken belief?”
The Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan (L2E) is co-produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Lyca Productions, and Sri Gokulam Movies. The story is crafted by Murali Gopy, with music composed by Deepak Dev. The film's cinematography is by Sujith Vaassudev and editing by Akhilesh Mohan.
The first installment of the franchise, Lucifer, released in 2019, marked Prithviraj Sukumaran's directorial debut and became a blockbuster within just eight days, grossing over Rs 200 crore, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date.
