Mohit Malik Feels No Hesitation Portraying a Gay Character in 'Chamak'

Mumbai, Jan 4 (NationPress) Actor Mohit Malik, who portrays a gay character dealing with societal challenges in 'Chamak', expressed that he had no reservations about taking on this role in the series.
He stated, “I didn’t have any inhibitions regarding Chamak. In fact, my director was the one with concerns about whether I would accept the role. He questioned me if I would take it on, as several actors had turned it down. However, I viewed it as a fantastic opportunity. If they declined, it was their loss.”
The actor mentioned that his character undergoes significant transformation.
“He evolves from being an empathetic person to becoming indifferent due to the trauma he has faced. I hope viewers connect with his journey in Season 2.”
For Mohit, embodying Guru in 'Chamak' necessitated a deep understanding of the character's psyche.
“My approach always begins internally—grasping the character's psychology, beliefs, and thought patterns. The external elements then follow naturally.”
When discussing the performances that influenced him this year, he said: “Vijay Sethupathi is an exceptional actor. I was also impressed by Sai Pallavi in Amaran on Netflix; she delivered a remarkable performance this year.”
He praised the performances from southern talents, noting that they feel more “connected.”
“Their films succeed because they have a clear intent, unlike Bollywood, where there is often excessive focus on vanity and paparazzi culture.”
When asked about revisiting any of his previous roles, Mohit expressed a desire to explore new avenues.
“I wouldn’t want to portray the same character again. I would prefer to embrace something I haven’t attempted before.”
Mohit is renowned for his roles in 'Doli Armaano Ki', 'Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala', and 'Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si'.
He made his television debut with the show 'Miilee'. Following that, he appeared in various TV series such as 'Betiyaan Apni Ya Paraya Dhan', 'Pari Hoon Main', 'Banoo Main Teri Dulhann', 'Godh Bharaai', 'Durgesh Nandinii', 'Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya', and 'Phulwa'.
