Mumbai, December 12 (NationPress) Bollywood star Nawazuddin Siddiqui has consistently delivered a plethora of successful films and established himself as a remarkable actor. In a conversation with IANS, he expressed his passion for the cinematic realm and his apprehension towards the 'real world'.
“Portraying Jatil Yadav in Raat Akeli Hai, with its gripping narrative, was a challenging endeavor,” shared Nawazuddin. He continued, “However, I relished the experience of being immersed in that environment. At times, the real world frightens me more, prompting me to escape into it. I find joy in living within the cinematic universe for those three months or more during the shooting period while embodying that character.”
When queried by IANS about the difficulty of transitioning from an intense scene once the camera stops rolling, Nawazuddin explained, “I wouldn’t say it’s straightforward. I am not the type of actor who can easily turn it on and off. If I'm filming for two or three months, the character lingers with me. It’s not just about the mood; it stays in the back of my mind.”
He added, “Until the film concludes, there’s a sense of restlessness. Honestly, I aspire to be someone who can easily switch on and off, but I find it hard, and frankly, I don’t even wish to. I prefer to remain in character.”
Chitrangada Singh, who plays the role of Meera in Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, shared her insights on breaking from intense character portrayals.
“For me, it was challenging as the entire narrative of Raat Akeli Hai is deeply intense, centered around murders and investigations. It’s all very profound, and you don’t want to exit that emotional state because you know you need to return to it right away. It’s not as if the camera stops, and you begin laughing or enjoying music. None of us felt that way on set,” she stated.
She added, “The director cultivates an atmosphere that keeps you within that emotional sphere. On my way home, I would listen to music to help me detach a bit. In the mornings, while preparing, I would listen to music again to immerse myself back into that emotion. Music assists me in shifting frequencies. However, maintaining intensity for prolonged periods is difficult. You can grow weary of one emotion. How long can you stay joyful or sorrowful? Therefore, breaks are necessary to rejuvenate.”
