Mumbai, April 10 (NationPress) Cinematographer Pankaj Kumar, who is embarking on his directorial journey with the OTT series ‘Khauf’, has revealed the motivations behind selecting actress Monika Panwar for the series.
‘Khauf’ tells the tale of Madhu, a young woman who moves to a vibrant city in search of a fresh start, only to face a sinister entity in her hostel room that forces her to confront the dark shadows of her past.
Discussing the casting process for the lead role, Pankaj shared, “We held extensive discussions regarding every audition we reviewed. We assessed numerous auditions for each character, but the moment we viewed Monika’s, it was a collective agreement; she was our lead.”
He added, “As a director, it was profoundly satisfying to collaborate with actors who naturally embodied their roles. Their fluid performances made my task significantly easier. They were fully in character and had undergone a rigorous rehearsal process for months, making the connections very authentic and believable due to the extensive preparations they all engaged in. I feel incredibly fortunate that every actor was selected purely based on merit, chosen because they genuinely suited their roles, without external influences.”
Pankaj is recognized for his contributions to ‘Haider’, ‘Tumbaad’, ‘Brahmastra Part One-Shiva’, and ‘Farzi’. The series also features Rajat Kapoor, Abhishek Chauhan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, and Shilpa Shukla in prominent roles, and promises a spine-chilling experience that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats.
This show also marks Smita Singh’s debut as a creator and showrunner. ‘Khauf’ is executive-produced by Sanjay Routray and Sarita Patil under the Matchbox Shots banner.
Directed by Pankaj Kumar and Surya Balakrishna, ‘Khauf’ is slated to premiere on Prime Video on April 18.
