This eight-part original series is crafted by Smita Singh. It explores the unsettling journey of Madhu, a young woman seeking solace in a hostel in an unfamiliar city, oblivious to its sinister past filled with hidden secrets.
As she struggles to break free from her haunting past, she finds herself ensnared in a terrifying confrontation with mysterious forces lurking both within her room and beyond. As the malevolent presence tightens its grip, Madhu's reality morphs into a waking nightmare—one from which she may never be liberated.
"Suspense horror series possess a unique charm, intertwining psychological depth with spine-tingling suspense, rendering them one of the most captivating genres in storytelling. Khauf elevates this genre with a profound, multi-layered narrative that will enthrall fans, plunging them into a chasm of terror," stated Nikhil Madhok, head of Originals at Prime Video India.
Produced by Matchbox Shots, the original series is directed by Pankaj Kumar and Surya Balakrishnan. Marking her debut as a creator and showrunner, Smita Singh leads the project, with Sanjay Routray and Sarita Patil serving as executive producers.
Smita Singh noted, "Horror flourishes on emotions and atmosphere, and with Khauf, we crafted a narrative that is both disconcerting and profoundly human."
Singh further expressed: "Madhu's journey encompasses not only facing external terrors but also confronting her own fears and past traumas. Partnering with Prime Video has been remarkable. They are renowned for taking bold risks and providing platforms for fresh, authentic voices—empowering creators to transcend boundaries and narrate stories that might otherwise remain untold."
Producer Sarita Patil remarked, "What distinguishes this series is Smita Singh's intricate storytelling and her ability to create an atmosphere of dread, coupled with psychological depth that keeps viewers on edge, questioning what is real and what lurks in the shadows."
