Pankaj Tripathi reveals two climax versions shot for 'Parivarik ManuRanjan'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Pankaj Tripathi has disclosed that his upcoming streaming film 'Parivarik ManuRanjan' had two entirely different climax sequences filmed — and the team ultimately chose the milder of the two. The film, co-starring Aditi Rao Hydari, is set to premiere on 13 November 2026 exclusively on SonyLIV.
Two Climaxes, One Decision
Speaking to reporters in the Goregaon East area of Mumbai, Aditi Rao Hydari explained the behind-the-scenes creative dilemma. 'There were two options for the climax. Even we gave two options for the climax. One was more hilarious, and the other was less hilarious. Which one was kept? Less hilarious,' she said.
She added that the team felt the funnier version would have been excessive given the film's overall tone. 'After shooting the film, the rest of the sound, the more hilarious one, we thought would be too much of a comedy. The rest of the sound of our film, the third end was a little more. So, we kept a milder version,' she explained.
The Film's Tone and Inspiration
Tripathi described 'Parivarik ManuRanjan' as a deliberately unhurried cinematic experience, drawing comparisons to beloved classics of Hindi comedy. 'The rest of the story was on the same page because the story was so simple, there was no need to think too much about the gist and story. The earlier films that were made, like 'Chupke Chupke' — it's a space cinema,' he noted.
He further characterised the film as comforting rather than confrontational. 'It's a little more peaceful cinema. If you watch it with a smile, it's like that. It's a comfort cinema, like comfort food. It's family-oriented and entertaining,' he said. The reference to 'Chupke Chupke' — the 1975 Hrishikesh Mukherjee classic — signals the register the makers are aiming for: warmth, wit, and restraint over slapstick.
Tripathi's Personal Interlude: Durgashtami in Kolkata
Amid promotional commitments, Tripathi made time to celebrate Durgashtami with his family in Kolkata — his wife Mridula Tripathi's maternal home. The actor is known to visit the city regularly to spend time with his in-laws and soak in the city's festive atmosphere. This year's visit allowed him to participate fully in the city's storied Durga Puja traditions.
Release Details
'Parivarik ManuRanjan' drops on SonyLIV on 13 November 2026. The film marks another collaboration between two of Hindi cinema's most critically regarded actors. Notably, Tripathi's OTT track record — including acclaimed performances in Mirzapur and Criminal Justice — means the film arrives with significant audience anticipation. Whether the 'milder' climax lands as intended will be one of the more talked-about questions when reviews emerge.
