Mumbai, Aug 11 (NationPress) Former actress Sonu Walia, recognized for her roles in ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’, ‘Dil Aashna Hai’, and other films, is marking 42 years of her incredible journey.
On Monday, Sonu shared a nostalgic image on her Instagram from her very first modelling assignment. In the photo, she is seen portraying Israj.
In her caption, she reflected on her initial experience, stating, “August 11, 1983, was the day I secured my first modelling job at Mitter Bedi's studio, conveniently located behind the Taj. It was a calendar shoot for a pharmaceutical company. I earned 1500 rupees, which covered my monthly accommodation and meals. Thus began my modelling career, having arrived in Mumbai with 4000 rupees saved from fashion shows with Hemant Trivedi and dreams in my eyes.”
She elaborated, “This shoot confirmed my choice to migrate from Delhi, where I was studying, to this vast city filled with opportunities! A decision I have never regretted. Following this, I ventured into modelling and won the Miss India pageant in 1985. Fast forward to August 11, 1988, when ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’ was released, forever altering my life. It has been 37 years since its release, and I believe I am recognized more as Nandini than by my birth name; people even tell me, ‘Oh, it was released just 7 years ago.’ That’s the charm and resonance, attributed to my director Rakesh Roshan.
“Feeling a bit nostalgic today, I wanted to share the origins of my journey. Wishing everyone a fantastic week. May you all achieve your dreams in this lifetime,” she concluded.
Sonu, a graduate in psychology and a journalism student, took the plunge into modelling and won the Miss India title, subsequently representing India at the 1985 Miss Universe pageant.
