Did Sunny Deol Praise Uttarakhand's Film Support During His Meeting with Officials?

Mumbai, May 20 (NationPress) In a noteworthy effort to enhance Uttarakhand's reputation as a prime location for filmmakers, actor Sunny Deol engaged with officials from the Uttarakhand Film Development Council on Tuesday. The meeting took place at the Halduwala site in Dehradun, where an extensive war set for his forthcoming film Border 2 has been established. This gathering underscores the increasing partnership between the film sector and the state government to promote Uttarakhand as a significant center for film production. Council CEO Bansidhar Tiwari, alongside Joint CEO Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, welcomed the actor and director Anurag Singh. A source close to the proceedings disclosed that the group engaged in comprehensive discussions regarding Uttarakhand's progressive film policies, a diverse range of shooting locales, and the state government's unwavering backing for filmmakers.

“From prompt permissions to local resources and smooth administrative collaboration, the atmosphere in Uttarakhand is establishing itself as ideal for film productions,” Tiwari remarked, emphasizing how the state is evolving into a bastion for high-quality filmmaking. Sunny Deol also conveyed his gratitude for the state’s cooperation.

The discussion further illuminated other cinematic ventures currently active in Uttarakhand. Filming for ‘Ginny Weds Sunny 2’, featuring Avinash Tiwari and Medha Shankar, is taking place in Dehradun. Esteemed actors Govind Namdev and Sudhir Pandey are also part of the cast. The comedic satire ‘Uttar Da Puttar’, starring Annu Kapoor, Pawan Malhotra, and Bijendra Kala, is being filmed across Dehradun and Rishikesh.

In addition to supporting regional cinema, three Garhwali-language films — ‘Marcha’, ‘Teri Maya’, and ‘Namak’ — are currently being shot in Dehradun, Tehri, and Uttarkashi. These projects are receiving technical and logistical assistance from the government, promoting local language, culture, and traditions.

The council reported that over the last year, numerous notable Hindi films and web series, including ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’, ‘Do Patti’, ‘Putul’, ‘Rautu Ka Raaz’, ‘Tanvi The Great’, and ‘Kesari 2’, have wrapped up filming in the state. In the fiscal year 2024–25, the Uttarakhand government has issued 225 filming permits alone.

Regarding ‘Border 2’, directed by Anurag Singh of Kesari fame, this upcoming action drama is produced by JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, and T-Series. The film, centered on the 1971 India-Pakistan war, boasts a stellar cast including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty alongside Sunny. A massive set resembling a Kashmiri village has been constructed in the Halduwala region of Dehradun, with construction commencing as early as November last year. The film features intricate war scenes involving tanks and military movements, heavily utilizing VFX to enhance its visual appeal.

‘Border 2’ is set to be released in theaters on January 23, 2026.
