Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 12 (NationPress) A threatening voice-note targeting Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh was transmitted via a Virtual Private Network (VPN). The authorities have chosen to keep the suspect's identity confidential, as stated by an officer.
The actor was threatened through a WhatsApp voice-note that demanded a substantial sum of money, leading to increased security measures around his residence. Following this alarming incident, the Mumbai Police were notified and have initiated a search for the originator of the threatening message.
In a parallel case, Aayush Sharma, brother-in-law of superstar Salman Khan, also faced a threat via email. This email, sent using a Proton email account, allegedly came from the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang. A representative from the Mumbai Crime Branch confirmed the details concerning this email.
Aayush Sharma’s experience adds to the growing list of threats faced by celebrities in the entertainment hub of Mumbai.
In a more grave incident, gunfire erupted outside the home of director Rohit Shetty. Investigations by the Mumbai Crime Branch uncovered that the weapon used was linked to a vehicle sold in Pune. This vehicle, previously owned by a man from Pune, was sold to Aditya Gayki, one of the suspects, for Rs 30,000 just days prior.
The vehicle was abandoned in the Juhu area of Mumbai by Gayki and another accomplice, Samarth Pomaji. The Crime Branch indicated that those involved in the vehicle's purchase were unaware of the shooter’s identity, later revealed to be Shubham Lonkar, who instructed the shooter to retrieve the vehicle and commit the crime.
The Mumbai Crime Branch reported that Shubham Lonkar intended to instill fear in the city and communicated with the arrested individuals via a specific app. A transfer of Rs 40,000 was made to one of the detained suspects by Lonkar. Furthermore, it was disclosed in court that Lonkar had handed over three firearms to his brother, Praveen Lonkar, which were ultimately provided to the suspects involved in the Rohit Shetty shooting incident.
