In a touching birthday tribute to Shabana, who celebrated her 75th birthday on Thursday, Urmila took to Instagram to post a series of nostalgic images from the film, which is based on the 1980 Erich Segal novel Man, Woman and Child, marking her debut as a child actor.
“Year 1983..location Janki Kutir. Tiny, anxious and nervous me meets the legendary Shabana Azmi for the photo shoot of Masoom, and since then, our bond has blossomed with love, respect, admiration, laughter, madness, and so much more (sic).”
She continued, “There are countless things I could express my gratitude for, but above all, it would be for constantly reminding me ‘how to live life to its fullest, embracing everything it throws at you’! Thank you for your incredible inspiration on-screen and for showering me with your warmth and generosity. I cherish your presence in my life deeply (sic)!”
Affectionately calling Shabana a queen, Urmila concluded, “Happy Birthday, Queen! At 75, you’ve never rocked more than this!”
“Masoom” was notable for being the directorial debut of Shekhar Kapur. The film features a stellar cast including Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Jugal Hansraj, and Saeed Jaffrey, along with special appearances by Tanuja and Supriya Pathak.
The story revolves around Devendra Kumar, whose family life spirals when he learns he has an illegitimate child from a previous affair. He brings the young boy, Rahul, home, but his wife, Indu, struggles to accept the child.
In addition to this, Urmila’s 1995 hit Rangeela is set to make a comeback on the big screen, celebrating three decades in the Hindi film industry.
