Vignesh Raja Discusses Dhanush's 'Kara': From Vellore to Ramanathapuram
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, April 21 (NationPress) Director Vignesh Raja has revealed that his much-anticipated film 'Kara', starring Dhanush, was initially set in Vellore but has been skillfully transformed to Ramanathapuram.
Vignesh Raja stated that the narrative subtly delves into political themes, albeit in a non-traditional manner.
“The original setting was Vellore, but I chose to adapt it to Ramanathapuram. The dialects of Ramanathapuram and Madurai bear significant similarities, prompting us to use a generalized ‘down south’ slang for authenticity,” he elaborated.
On the subject of his filmmaking approach, Vignesh Raja mentioned, “Typically, I depend on storyboarding; however, the emotional richness of this film necessitated a more organic method. Allowing Dhanush to perform freely brings forth unexpected brilliance on screen. As a director himself, he shared numerous ideas and encouraged me to incorporate what best suited the film.”
He emphasized the significance of characters, noting, “The role of Mamitha Baiju is pivotal as she propels the protagonist’s journey. The film also showcases several seasoned actors, and instead of micromanaging their performances, we concentrated on their appearances and character nuances to facilitate their internalization of roles.”
He characterized Kara as an unpredictable thriller, asserting that audiences will struggle to predict the storyline’s progression.
Vignesh also discussed the casting of Suraj Venjaramoodu, explaining, “At first, many actors perceived the role as lacking substance. After we enriched the character, it transformed into a significant role. Suraj swiftly grasped the depth and was eager to join the project.”
He clarified that while 'Kara' features action scenes, it refrains from excessive violence, adhering closely to the narrative’s needs. The film has successfully completed the censor process and is poised for release.
For those unfamiliar, Kara is an engaging crime thriller that boasts a stellar cast including Dhanush, Mamitha Baiju, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, K. S. Ravikumar, and Karunas. Directed by Vignesh Raja and produced by Vels Film International, the film is scheduled for a grand worldwide theatrical release on April 30 this year.
