Mumbai, April 7 (NationPress) The creators of Matka King released the gripping trailer for their drama series on Tuesday, with lead actor Vijay Varma highlighting that the narrative fundamentally revolves around ambition, power, and the sacrifices made in the pursuit of success.

Vijay, portraying the lead character Brij Bhatti, expressed, “Participating in Matka King has been an incredible experience. Bringing this character and setting to life was both challenging and immensely satisfying, particularly since it is set in a historical period I had never previously explored. Additionally, returning to a Prime Original after Dahaad and Mirzapur feels fantastic.”

Reflecting on the creative team, including Nagraj Manjule and Abhay Koranne, Vijay mentioned they provided him the “creative liberty to immerse himself in Brij's universe, and collaborating with such talented co-stars like Kritika, Sai, and Gulshan Grover made the process even more rewarding.”

The series features a stellar cast including Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat, Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishor Kadam, Cyrus Sahukar, Arpita Sethiya, Sambhaji Tangade, Ishtiyak Khan, Sanjivv Jotangia, and Simran Ashwini. It is set to premiere on April 17 on Prime Video.

The trailer introduces viewers to the world of Brij Bhatti, an astute cotton trader with aspirations for a better life in post-Independence Bombay during the 1960s. With a single audacious idea, he transforms gambling from an exclusive leisure activity into a massive phenomenon, birthing ‘Matka’. However, as the stakes rise, so do the potential consequences, turning dreams into nightmares.

Kritika shared that her role in Matka King differs significantly from her previous roles.

“It challenged me to explore her world filled with choices, resilience, and ambition. Each scene provided a chance to understand her motivations and inner strength, which was both thrilling and demanding as an actress,” she mentioned.

She emphasized that the series portrays a narrative centered around individuals, power dynamics, and personal journeys.

Sai Tamhankar, who plays Barkha, Brij Bhatti’s wife, commented, “Though Barkha may appear to be a conventional middle-class housewife at first glance, she is, in fact, a complex and layered character, a progressive and independent woman who forges her own path rather than living in her husband’s shadow.”

She noted that this role allowed her to portray a character vastly different from her past roles.

Matka King is crafted and penned by Abhay Koranne and is both created and directed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule. It is produced by Roy Kapur Films, Aatpat, and SMR Entertainment.
