Zendaya Opens Up About Heatstroke Incident on the Set of ‘Dune: Part Two’

Los Angeles, Jan 4 (NationPress) Golden Globe winner Zendaya has disclosed that she experienced a health scare caused by dehydration while filming Dune: Part Two, attributed to the film's remote desert setting.

The actress revealed that she suffered from heat stroke while shooting the adaptation directed by Denis Villeneuve in Jordan, where the nearest restroom was quite a trek away, prompting her to limit her water intake, as reported by deadline.com.

"It was incredibly hot, and I recall thinking, ‘Oh, man, the bathrooms are so far away,’ because we had to hike to the shooting locations. If you needed to use the restroom, it would take at least 10 minutes to get out of the costumes," she shared with W Magazine.

"I thought, Damn, I don’t want to drink too much water."

She confessed to having a fear of soiling herself while in costume on set.

"One day, I didn’t hydrate properly and ended up with heatstroke. I felt nauseous. I remember calling my mom from the bathroom floor, saying, ‘I feel awful.’ She asked, ‘Did you drink water today?’ I had to admit no. I thought I was being clever, but that’s not a smart choice. So, lesson learned."

After David Lynch adapted Frank Herbert’s Dune for his 1984 film, Villeneuve returned to the source material for his adaptation Dune (2021) and this year’s Dune: Part Two.

The first film won six Oscars, and both films have collectively grossed $1.12 billion worldwide.

The franchise has also led to the prequel series Dune: Prophecy, which recently premiered, featuring Indian actress Tabu.

Villeneuve stated to Deadline in November that he intends to begin filming the third part of the film series, based on Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah, in late 2025 or 2026.

The original installment of Dune is set in a distant future, narrating the story of Paul Atreides as his family, the esteemed House Atreides, becomes embroiled in a conflict over the perilous and desolate desert planet Arrakis.

Dune: Part Two continues the story of Paul Atreides as he allies with the Fremen people of Arrakis to fight against House Harkonnen.
