New Delhi, Jan 14 (NationPress) The government of Delhi is set to launch 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs today, representing the fifth phase of the expansion initiative aimed at enhancing neighborhood-level primary healthcare throughout the capital.

Delhi's Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh stated on Tuesday that this move will significantly improve the availability of accessible and preventive healthcare services for all residents.

With this latest addition, the total number of centers will increase to 319 across the national capital, as mentioned by Singh.

"This expansion is a step toward achieving our goal of establishing over 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, in line with the long-term primary healthcare strategy for Delhi," he noted.

Currently, 238 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational. After today's inauguration, the number of active centers will reach 319.

"These centers are a pivotal part of the Delhi government's mission to deliver free, accessible, and dignified primary healthcare to every household. This initiative is being rolled out under the guidance of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, aligning with the national vision of 'Healthcare for All,'" the Minister elaborated.

Each Ayushman Arogya Mandir will provide free consultations with doctors, vital medications, diagnostic tests, along with screenings for diabetes, hypertension, cancer, maternal and child healthcare, immunization support, growth monitoring, lifestyle counseling, mental health services, and preventive health initiatives like yoga and nutrition advice.

"These local facilities will considerably alleviate the burden on major hospitals, ensuring timely assistance for women, elderly citizens, and low-income families without the need for long travel or extensive waiting times."

"Alongside the growth of Arogya Mandirs, Delhi is enhancing its coverage under both the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the Ayushman Bharat-Vaya Vandana Yojana (AB-VVY). As of January 13, 2026, a total of 691,530 health cards (combining PM-JAY and VVY) have been issued in Delhi, which includes 265,895 VVY cards," Minister Singh revealed.

Furthermore, to ensure smooth access to secondary and tertiary care, Delhi now boasts 189 empanelled hospitals, which include 138 private institutions, 41 government hospitals, and 10 central government facilities.

"These empanelled facilities offer cashless treatment, ensuring that financially vulnerable families can obtain essential medical care without cost barriers," he concluded.

Point of View

The establishment of 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Delhi symbolizes a critical step towards achieving equitable healthcare access for all citizens. As the nation grapples with healthcare challenges, such initiatives enhance local healthcare infrastructure, promoting preventive care and reducing the burden on larger hospitals. This aligns well with the national vision of 'Healthcare for All.'
