Is the Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Gujarat Transforming Lives in Jamnagar?

Jamnagar (Gujarat), April 29 (NationPress) Millions of families throughout India are experiencing remarkable financial relief thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). The Kendras established under this initiative offer affordable yet high-quality medicines, significantly improving the lives of the underprivileged and middle-class communities.

In the city of Jamnagar, Gujarat, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra situated on ST Road has been particularly advantageous for the local populace. Residents from low and middle-income backgrounds have expressed heartfelt appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government for the transformative effects of this program.

IANS interviewed several beneficiaries of this initiative, who shared their heartfelt stories. Nilesh, one of the beneficiaries, recounted, “I have been purchasing medicines from the Jan Aushadhi Kendra for a long time. Previously, I bought them from private pharmacies, where the costs ranged from Rs 700 to 800. Now, I can get the same medicines for just Rs 200 to 250 here, which has saved me a significant amount. I urge everyone to consider the Jan Aushadhi Kendras for their medication needs.”

Another beneficiary, Dev, remarked, “I buy medicines for my parents from the Jan Aushadhi Kendra. We used to spend considerably more at private pharmacies, but now we enjoy substantial savings.”

Jayesh Kawaiya, the director of the Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Jamnagar, revealed that he first heard about the scheme in 2017 while employed at a private firm. He stated, “I left my job to open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra. At first, we had very few customers, but as awareness spread, more people began to visit, and the center flourished. This initiative has not only assisted me as an entrepreneur but has also provided customers with access to affordable medications.”

He continued, “I sincerely thank Prime Minister Modi for this initiative, which has become a true blessing for the poor.”

The PMBJP was initiated in November 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, in collaboration with Central Pharma Public Sector Undertakings. Its mission is to ensure that quality generic medicines are available at affordable prices for all.

As part of this program, dedicated outlets known as Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras have been established nationwide. Every year, March 7 is commemorated as Jan Aushadhi Diwas to enhance awareness and promote the use of generic medicines. Recently, a week-long event was organized from March 1 to 7 to support and inform the public about this initiative.
