Kathmandu, March 9 (NationPress) Approximately 55,000 Nepali nationals in West Asia have recently provided their information through an online rescue tracking platform introduced by the Nepali government, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

As per a statement from the ministry, by Sunday night, a total of 54,786 Nepalis living in the West Asia region had registered in this online system initiated by the Department of Consular Services. This effort aims to assist the government in gathering updated data and evaluating the necessary support.

In light of the ongoing US–Iran conflict, which has affected many areas in West Asia, the consular department established this online registration system to collect current information on Nepali citizens residing in the region.

The ministry emphasized that the submitted information is being prioritized for review, and necessary actions are being taken based on the circumstances and needs of those registered. They also mentioned that air travel in several regions of West Asia has not yet completely normalized, although a limited number of flights are operating from specific locations.

Authorities in many countries within the region are continually updating security measures and public awareness. Therefore, Nepali citizens are encouraged to stay informed about notices, precautionary measures, and updates from local governments and Nepali missions.

The ministry further urged Nepali nationals to maintain a sense of calm, exercise caution, and stay vigilant during this challenging period, advising against the recording or sharing of any materials that could breach the law.

With over 1.7 million Nepali nationals residing in 12 countries across the region, their safety is a significant concern, especially considering the retaliatory strikes by Iran in response to joint military actions by the United States and Israel, which have targeted several civilian facilities in Gulf nations.

Tragically, the Nepali government has confirmed the death of a young individual, Diwas Shrestha, from Gorkha district, who lost his life during a drone interception operation at Zayed International Airport in the United Arab Emirates.

Point of View

Especially given the recent escalation of the US-Iran conflict. The government's proactive response through an online registration system reflects its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad. The ongoing updates from local authorities highlight the urgency of remaining informed and prepared during this volatile period.
